When you find a new dentist, what is one of the first questions that come to mind? If you have dental insurance benefits, you are likely wondering if you will be able to use your insurance in-network. And, as a patient who needs oral health assistance, there is probably a slew of other questions swarming your thoughts.

THE BASICS OF DENTAL INSURANCE
While insurance is far too complex to cover in one article, this summary will hopefully help you understand the basics of how it works when you go to the dentist.
Before you contact a new provider, make sure you have your dental card handy. It can be easily confused with your medical insurance card, and in some instances, is the same card. But typically, it is a separate card that will have the word dental somewhere on the front back of the card. This will allow the front desk to better assist you and will make the benefit verification process much faster.
When you schedule an appointment with your new dentist, provide them with the member ID number, the cardholder’s name and date of birth, and the group number, if applicable. There will also be a phone number on the back of the card that will be helpful when contacting your insurance.
From your end, that should be about all that the dental office needs to locate and verify your dental benefits. Let us handle the rest for you!
