Custom Nightguards
A major component to preventative dental care for many patients includes wearing an nightguard. If you grind your teeth at night, have lots of wear on your teeth, wearing a guard every single night is essential to protect your healthy teeth from wearing down. Also, if you have a lot of dentistry that needs to be protected, Dr. Z will likely recommend wearing a nightguard to assist in keeping your crowns or veneers from breaking or chipping at night.

Routine Dental Cleanings & Checkups

You may be wondering why routine dental checkups are so important. While you should be brushing and flossing your teeth on a regular basis, dental problems can start to appear steadily over time. By keeping regular dental visits, you can catch tooth decay or cavities early on with different preventative measures. Not only does this keep your teeth healthier longer, but will help prevent costly dental procedures and treatments.
At Z Dentistry, we recommend a preventative course of action that includes regular checkups, x-rays, and dental cleanings every 6 months. At your appointment, you may receive the following:
- Plaque and tartar removal
- Detailed tooth polishing
- Thorough flossing and gum exam
- Diagnostic x-ray, especially if you’re having tooth pain
- Topical fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel
- Prescription or referral for further treatment
Cavity Prevention

If there’s one thing that preventative dental care is focused on, it’s protection against cavities. We offer various types of cavity prevention techniques to strengthen your tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay long term.
Types of cavity prevention include but aren’t limited to:
- Dental Sealants – There are certain areas in-between your teeth that are hard to brush and floss, especially your back teeth (molars). If you have a cavity starting to show, we may suggest a dental sealant, a thin, protective coating to adhere to the chewing surface of your tooth.
- In-Office Fluoride Treatments – Fluoride is a natural mineral found in most drinking water that helps prevent the amount of acid found on your teeth. When you receive a tooth cleaning, our dental assistant will apply fluoride at the end to protect your teeth against cavities and sensitivities.
- Prescription Toothpaste – For patients at high risk of cavities or tooth decay, we prescribe fluoride toothpaste for nighttime use. It is to be applied without rinsing so that the strengthening properties of the fluoride can be absorbed into each tooth while you sleep.
At Z Dentistry, we recommend a preventative course of action that includes regular checkups, x-rays, and dental cleanings every 6 months. At your appointment, you may receive the following:
- Plaque and tartar removal
- Detailed tooth polishing
- Thorough flossing and gum exam
- Diagnostic x-ray, especially if you’re having tooth pain
- Topical fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel
- Prescription or referral for further treatment
Oral Exams & Cancer Screenings

One of the most important things at a routine dental checkup is checking for problems that may be invisible to the eye, particularly through diagnostic x-rays and cancer screenings.
- Diagnostic X-Rays – Dental x-rays are images taken of your teeth to evaluate your oral health. These types of oral exams help our dental team identify problems such as cavities, tooth decay, and impacted teeth long before your tooth is inoperable. At Z Dentistry, we recommend having your x-rays updated every 6 months so that we are able to watch the progression of your teeth and catch dental problems early on.
- Cancer Screenings – Oral cancer screenings are completed at every comprehensive dental exam at our clinic. During these exams, our dentist will look inside your mouth to check for red or white patches or mouth sores. Often, these are the first signs of different types of oral cancers. In addition, we make it a point to check all of the soft and hard tissue of your mouth during your 6-month checkup.
At-Home Oral Health Techniques

Providing the best preventive care extends beyond our clinic. Our dentist and dental assistants take the time to answer any questions you may have about taking care of your teeth, gums, and mouth. We’ll give you step-by-step instructions and product recommendations that can be trusted to fit your needs and prevent your teeth from decaying.
We may also suggest other types of at-home oral health techniques such as teeth whitening, teeth straightening, or custom-fit nightguards. It’s our goal to provide comprehensive preventative dental care to protect your teeth and ensure a healthy, white smile for years to come.
